MWC Egypt: Youths Celebrate World Wetlands Day
Wednesday 2 March 2005, by Web Team

February 2, 2005, World Wetlands Day

Every year the world celebrates World Wetlands Day on the 2nd of February, in commemoration of the ratification of the Ramsar Agreement for the Conservation of Wetlands and Waterfowl, in 1972.

WWD was celebrated this year through the Project for the Conservation of Wetlands and Coastal Ecosystems MedWetCoast’s three protectorates; namely Zaranik, Burullus and Omayed (see MWC Egypt) .

Celebrations this year targeted youths and aimed at raising their awareness and integrating them in environmental conservation. Thus around 180 youths participated in Burullus, 100 in Zaranik and 80 in Omayed; all from local youth clubs, scouts and high-schools.

The celebrations consisted of lectures, field trips, competitions, and more importantly, cleaning campaigns which the youths conducted themselves.
