Synergies and coordination of efforts in developing new project assisted by Funding for Expansion of LGP in the frame of Supporting the Community-Based Organizations to plan and implement Small Community Development Projects Prioritized by the Citizens.

In this regard a draft proposal has been worked out with support from UNDP CO on strengthening National Capacity for Sustainable Management and Conservation of Marine Biodiversity focused on biodiversity conservation with main objectives enhancing of both institutional and human capacity of the dedicated institutions dealing with marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable management, building research institutes and university’s capacity to provide policy makers with sound advises and background materials and promoting marine protected areas in the country.

Institutional capacity building is among project-targeted topics that will help government of Albania in establishing a well functioning dedicated institution that can coordinates and monitors marine biodiversity related issues in the country. Within this overall framework the proposed project will assist the country in three main areas: enhancing both capacities of the dedicated institutions dealing with marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable management; building research institutes and university’s capacity to provide policy makers with sound advises and background materials; and supporting establishment of marine protected areas in the country. The programmes key partners include: Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ministry of Territorial Adjustment and Tourism Development, the Regional government and commune level local government residing along the sea, targeted communities in close to the marine protected areas
