Implementory Committees for Community Development: The Missing Link
Thursday 15 April 2004, by
Since the project aims at weaving environmental issues with livelihood concerns of local stakeholders, in order to secure grass-root involvement, an Implementory Committee for Community Development ICCD was set at each site.
The ICCDs are designed to cater to locals’ needs, ensure successful sustainable development and solicit local cooperation with the project. Among the ICCDs’ main goals are capacity building for locals, the creation of alternative livelihood opportunities and the alleviation of locals’ socio-economic standards.
ICCDs are composed of representatives of local families, tribes and Non Governmental Organizations NGOs. So far, these committees have spear-headed several successful initiatives, such as repairing filters to protect fish fry from wandering into salt pans in Zaranik, distributing olive saplings to Omayed families and a plan for issuing identification cards in Omayed.
