"ZONE HUMIDES INFO"
"Zones Humides Infos" is a quarterly newsletter produced since 1993 by a wetland specialists’ expert group set up by the French Ministry of Environment in order to provide advice on the implementation and further development of France’s National Wetland Action Plan and national policies having an impact on wetlands. MedOpen : A initiative of the Coastal Management Center
Virtual training course on integrated coastal area management
This training course aims to assist Mediterranean countries in building capacities for coastal management. It has been globally agreed that the Integrated Coastal Area Management (whether its acronym be ICAM, ICZM, or ICM) is an optimal approach to a successful coastal management. Such an approach will be used in this training course.

MELMARINA Project : Monitoring and modelling coastal lagoons: making management tools for aquatic resources in North Africa

Stable institutional structure for protected areas management
Duration: 01 JAN 2004 to 01 AUG 2006
The number of protected areas (PAs) in Lebanon has increased from three in 1996 to 10 in 2002. However, sites have been defined on an ad hoc basis, and their management does not fall into a wider national strategic vision. The identification and agreement on institutional arrangements for the integrated management of PAs would pave the way for the adoption of a strategic planning for PAs In Lebanon.

Life third country project : Region of Vlora - Albania
Capacity building on conservation of albanian wetlands ecosystems (ALWET)
Duration: 01 JAN 2004 to 31 DEC 2006
Wetlands constitute a large part of Albania’s natural environment and are a significant biodiversity pool. A preliminary list of around 60 wetlands exists. However, according to the 2002 Country Profile for Albania, there is a limited amount of knowledge on these resources. Reliable knowledge is the basic resource on which all decisions concerning conservation and wise use of wetlands should be made.

Un centre de recherche pour la protection des zones humides au Maroc
Ayant pour mission de préserver l’écosystème des zones humides, le Centre marocain pour les zones humides - inauguré il y a moins d’une année- en est au stade du recrutement des experts.
C’est au sein du parc national zoologique de Témara que le centre marocain pour les zones humides a choisi de s’installer. Il s’agit d’un centre pionnier au niveau du Maghreb.

The MedWet Coordination Unit announces the start of two new projects in the Mediterranean region, very different in scale of funding, but both potentially very significant for the future work and implementation of the Ramsar Convention
Reinforcing capacities for the management of wetlands in North Africa and Wetlands, Agriculture and Water Use Interactions
1. Agriculture, Water and Wetlands
The first project is related to the theme of the Technical Workshop of the recent MedWet/Com5: "Wetlands, Agriculture and Water Use Interactions". It is funded by Inwent-Capacity Building International, a German organization, that got in touch with MedWet through the GWP-Med (Global Water Partnership-Mediterranean) Secretariat regarding the global Dialogue on Water, Food and Environment. Launching of the Mediterranean Coastal Management Clearing House website
A site for exchanging information on the coastal management in the Mediterranean is open!
The Priority Actions Programme Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC) is pleased to announce the launching of its Mediterranean Coastal Management Clearing House. In this context, the Clearing House represents a place where information on the coastal management in the Mediterranean is exchanged. PAP/RAC has built this site with the financial support of the European Commission aiming to improve information on the Integrated Coastal Area Management (ICAM) in the Mediterranean.
