Here it is! The next issue of the MedWetCoast newsletter!
Apologies, for there has been a few months of interruption, with some changes in the regional coordination unit. We now have a much-streamlined operation with a new webmaster-team (welcome Antoine & Vincent!). His first job has been to revisit and simplify the architecture of the site (not an easy task!); soon a tutorial will be finalized to enable the MWC national focal points to input information directly onto the website. All towards a much user-friendly instrument: check out the site, as it progressively develops!

Since last July 2004, there have been a number of good progresses at the national level, particularly in the area of management planning as well as policy and legal framework development. Site management plans have been finalized in Albania and Lebanon at the end of the year. Also, you will see that legal protection of the sites has greatly advanced: Moulouya (Morocco) in the process of becoming a national park, Tunisian sites up for Ramsar classification, and Narta (Albania) granted the protected area status. And MWC teams have been busy on sites, carrying out a number of demonstrative and effective urgent actions to diffuse negative socio-economic pressures and threats or protect sensitive areas. Have a look at the stories and pictures!

The whole MWC project is now moving to a stage of documenting and recording lessons learned and experience. The website is an essential tool to that end. Let us know how to make it more efficient!

Happy reading!
Sylvie

Bonne lecture!
Sylvie

Lebanon's sea turtles and their nests under threat 2 species lay eggs on the country's beaches
BEIRUT: With sea turtles endangered throughout the world, Lebanon, and especially the South, has fast become known as one of the marine reptiles' main nesting areas. Government measures designed to protect the animals and its fragile habitats have lagged behind the global trend.
